Anthony Gaffney, a 6-foot-2, 192-pound football/basketball prospect from The Pennington School in Pennington, New Jersey, has had a very good season competing in the sport of football this season.
Previously, Gaffney scored four touchdowns in his team's victory, including a return on an interception playing defensive back. He has produced 12 touchdowns as well picking off two passes as a defensive back.
RECRUITING INTEREST FOR FOOTBALL:
Boston College, Connecticut, Miami of Ohio, William and Mary, Villanova, and Princeton.
Gaffney told us he continues to be open in his recruiting process.
Anthony competed in the Mary Kline Memorial All Star game at the Pennington School in New Jersey on Memorial Day weekend. Anthony scored 13 points. Talent scout Alex Kline discussed Anthony's skill level as a basketball player.
"Anthony will not end up playing basketball at the next level as football is his first passion, however, he is extremely talented," said Kline. "If there's one thing Gaffney can do well, it's attack the rim constantly."
Kline continued: "At 6-foot-2, his athleticism and bounce is ridiculous. If his jumper were to improve dramatically, he could be a division one player easily."
Gaffney has also decided to attend Taft in Connecticut, a prep school, giving himself another year to make progress in his individual games in both football and basketball.
Previously, Gaffney told us he was ready to play football for Holy Cross this Fall. However, Gaffney changed his mind and will give himself more time to make improvements in his skill level, especially in the area of football where he has a chance to be a division one player.
Gaffney did have terrific senior seasons in both basketball and football for The Pennington School in New Jersey last season. He averaged nearly 19 points a game while grabbing nine rebounds per contest as a basketball player.
WHAT HIS HOOPS AAU COACH MATT PAULS SAID ABOUT ANTHONY GAFFNEY AS A BASKETBALL PLAYER:
