Reporter Mike Sullivan provides a free, detailed look at the past football season for senior prospect Kenneth Coughlin, who handled responsibilities on both sides of the ball this year ...

Kenneth Coughlin, a 5-10 1/2 linebacker/tight end from Tottenville High School in Staten Island, New York, worked very hard to have another successful football season.

HIS SENIOR SEASON PLAYING FOOTBALL:

Despite his great individual effort, Coughlin's team lost a heartbreaker in the New York City playoffs, the semifinal round, to Erasmus Hall in overtime, 20-17.

Kenneth recorded seven tackles and two sacks in the loss.

Previously, Coughlin had nine tackles, two of them sacks in another playoff game. In addition, Coughlin had three carries for 30 yards and a touchdown, playing running back.

Kenneth was a workhorse this past season. The reason being was the starting quarterback for Tottenville High School tore his ACL so the offense had to be restructured. So Coughlin played several positions.

RECRUITING PROCESS:

Coughlin will be taking official visits to Wagner, Sacred Heart, and Marist. Penn is out of the picture while Fordham, Monmouth, Rhode Island, and New Haven are also being considered.

SOME OF KENNETH'S BIG GAMES IN 2011:

Three weeks ago, against their biggest rival, Curtis High School, Coughlin had eight tackles, including two for a loss and a sack.

He helped his team to an overtime victory by compiling 17 tackles, including three in overtime.

In addition, Coughlin visited the campus of nearby Wagner, located on Staten Island.

"It was a great day," said his father, Mr. Coughlin. "He liked it a lot. Kenneth met all the coaches. It's definitely a possibility."

Three weekends ago, Coughlin recorded six tackles, a sack and had a fumble recovery for his first touchdown.

Coughlin has been long snapping on punts and extra points and also playing the right guard position.

PREVIOUSLY REPORTED:

Kenneth competed at several individual college team camps over the summer. They were: Marist, Penn, Temple, Villanova, Rutgers, Syracuse, Connecticut, Lafayette, and Fordham.

Coughlin also had a very good NIKE sponsored event held in Baltimore, Maryland. Held at Coppin State, Kenny tied for first in the Kneeling Power Ball toss -- 41 feet and had a Sparq Rating of 80.82.

Last year he made it to the U100. Kenneth was i the top five in the strength portion of it last year. He produced 29 reps at 155 pounds and ran a 40 in 4.86. He wants to get to the 4.6 to 4.7 range this year.

HONORS FOR HIS JUNIOR SEASON:

Kenneth was selected to the Staten Island Advance All Star team. In addition, Coughlin was named First Team All Staten Island and Second Team All City by the New York Post.

HIS JUNIOR SEASON:

We previously reported that Coughlin's season had ended in a PSAL semifinal playoff loss to Fort Hamilton.

However, Coughlin was one of the main reasons why his high school team went deep into the playoffs. He produced nine tackles to help his football team score a convincing 33-6 victory in the quarterfinals.

In addition to his nine tackles in the quarterfinal playoff game, he recorded a sack and two quarterback pressures that led to two interceptions.
