Colts and Broncos swap players

The Indianapolis Colts picked up cornerback Cassius Vaughn via a trade with the Denver Broncos in exchange for fullback Chris Gronkowski. Vaughn has 22 career tackles, one interception and three fumble recoveries and has returned one kickoff for a touchdown.

“Cassius is a young cornerback who brings game experience at his position, proven kickoff return ability and pure speed to the Colts,” Colts general manager Ryan Grigson said. “He’s a player who can really run and when you turn on the film you instantly recognize his athletic ability and speed. He’s a guy who has not hit his ceiling as a player yet and we saw some really encouraging things on tape that led us to the trade. I think it’s a win-win for both clubs because the Broncos are getting a quality football player, person and a heck of a fullback in Chris Gronkowski.”

Gronkowski was signed by the Colts on Sept. 4, 2011. He played in seven games before being placed on injured reserve on Oct. 26.

Gronkowski is a third-year player who has seen action in 21 games with seven starts with the Dallas Cowboys and Colts.

His career totals include five rushes for 17 yards and seven receptions for 35 yards with one touchdown.

Signed by the Cowboys as a college free agent two years ago, Gronkowski started at the University of Arizona after transferring from the University of Maryland.

Gronkowski is the brother of New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski and Cleveland Browns tight end Dan Gronkowski.
