Diallo emerging in ‘15

Cheick Diallo

It has been a breakout season for Cheick Diallo who is racking up offers and finding himself high on the college radar.

It is still very early for the class of 2015, but someone who is having a breakout season is Centereach (NY) Our Saviour center Cheick Diallo. The 6-foot-9 post is super athletic, and continues to get better every time he steps on the floor.

Last year Diallo was a bit of a work in progress, but now he is consistently productive, is a shot blocking machine, and is looking more skilled on the offensive end. Overall he knows he has stepped his game up.

"My season has been going well. I have had a lot of fun and I have played a lot of basketball," said Diallo. "I have just been working hard in practice."

Being fairly new to the game of basketball, Diallo has been working hard in the gym and says that the improvements coming from daily workouts.

"I have been working on my post moves and shooting a little bit as well," said Diallo. "Basically we just work on everything."

Recruiting wise Diallo is racking up the offers and interest. Our Saviour assistant coach Eric Jaklitsch says the offer list for Diallo is extremely long.

"He has offers from Pittsburgh, St. John's, Arizona, Seton Hall, Providence, Connecticut, Iowa State, Texas, Villanova, Oregon, Syracuse, UNLV, West Virginia, Washington, and he has interest from Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio State, Gonzaga, and UCLA," noted Jaklitsch.

According to Jaklitsch, Diallo hasn't made any unofficial visits yet this year. Still Diallo is learning about what it takes to play college basketball.

Former Our Saviour star and current St. John's freshman, Chris Obekpa, has been telling Diallo all about the college experience.

"Chris has told me college basketball is so different," said Diallo. "(Obekpa) said the game is so much faster and more physical. He has told me what I have to do to prepare to play college basketball."

Overall some kids in Diallo's position would find this all overwhelming, but he says the whole experience has been a good one.

"This has been great for me," said Diallo. "I am very happy with everything that has happened to me."
