With a strong showing at April's Charlie Weber Tournament in Washington, D.C., Scott Draughn, a 6-foot-5 205 pound combo forward from Hamden Hall Country Day School in Hamden, Connecticut, paved his way to a college scholarship.
Draughn has signed with Winthrop, out of the Big South Conference, after receiving recent interest from American, Fordham, and Quinnipiac. Draughn is a player who has battled injuries the past few seasons, including a broken leg that caused him to miss his entire junior season, which probably slowed his development.
A player with plenty of upside, Draughn is a bouncy athlete with a strong basketball body. Draughn will get on the glass, use his athleticism for points, and shows burgeoning ball skills that suggest that he might be able to make the transition to the wing somewhere down the line.
Draughn competed at Charlie Weber with the ConnectTalent AAU program, coached by John Jordan. Previously he had travelled with Connecticut Select.
Scott was a heralded prospect as an underclassmen out of Connecticut, only to be slowed by injuries. He'll have a chance to make an impact at Winthrop, and is a player who could develop into a great asset for coach Gregg Marshall's program.
