New York, N.Y. -- Talented rising senior point guard Levance Fields of the Gauchos sprinted past the New York Ravens defense for 18 points to lead their team to a 63-55 win.
This game, one of several pool games played yesterday at Basketball City in New York City, will lead to quarterfinal matchups this morning. The Gauchos had already lost a pool game against a team from Maine.
The Gauchos led 29-27 at the half. Fields, who plays at Xaverian, is considered one of the best players in the 2005 class. Fields has been giving general answers when it comes to his recruiting process because the amount of schools that would love to have him extend a mile long.
Pittsburgh has been mentioned though by Fields as one of the schools that has been in contact with him. The Panthers have done an outstanding job in recruiting the New York metro area. In fact, one of Field's ex-teammates, Chris Taft, had a solid season as a freshman for Pittsburgh. It's likely someday we will see Taft and Fields in the NBA.
Other schools that have been mentioned with Fields include Kentucky, Ohio State, Villanova, and St. John's. Fields has stated that he has no leader and is wide open in his recruiting process. He has not indicated whether he will take any unofficial visits in the future.
