It's important you catch Milan Prodanovic this spring, because he may not be around a whole lot once July rolls around. The crafty 6-foot-1, 165-pound lead guard/combo guard from Archbishop Molloy in Briarwood, Queens, is hoping to represent his native country at the European championships this summer, but not before competing in the AAU circuit this spring.
"I'm trying out for the Junior National team for Serbia-Montenegro," said Prodanovic, a junior. "If I make the team, I'll play with them at the European Championships in July."
If he doesn't make the cut, Milan has plenty of other options. Last summer he competed at the Adidas Camp in Suwanee, Georgia, and he has an invitation from the camp on the table again. He can also hit the AAU circuit with the Lamar Odom All-Stars (formerly New York City Heat), coached by Nate Cadogan.
"I'm signed up for the (Adidas) camp," said Prodanovic. "It just depends on whether or not I make the (Junior National) team. If I don't make the team, I'll be at the camp."
Prodanovic will participate in the Charlie Weber Tournament in Washington, D.C., this weekend with the Lamar Odom All-Stars. Then, he heads off to Europe next week.
Prodanovic is a lefty with a great shooting stroke and good range. He played off the ball for legendary Coach Jack Curran's Stanners this season, but he can also handle the point, with terrific playmaking instincts and good vision. He's not a player who has blow-by-you type of quickness, but Milan has a good feel for the game at both ends of the floor.
Some schools who have expressed interest in the resident of Flushing, Queens, include Davidson, Vanderbilt, Fairfield, Columbia, George Mason, and Hartford. Davidson and Vanderbilt had been in to evaluate Milan during the high school season.
Prodanovic is a strong student at academically competitive Molloy, carrying an 88 average. He scored 1080 on the PSAT and has not yet taken the SAT.
