Matt Hill, a 6-foot-7, 210 pound power forward from Cheshire Academy in Chesire, Connecticut, grabbed our eye at the Rumble in the Bronx last weekend playing with the Connecticut Basketball Club. A face-up four-man with good length, Hill makes his living from mid-range on out. He spent the vast majority of his time pulling up from 15 feet on out, with mixed success. In a game we took in, he knocked down a 16-footer and a pair of threes. Matt is also a good athlete who can get out and run the floor.
According to Connecticut Basketball Club coach J.R. Hargreaves, Hill is still scratching the surface in terms of ability.
"He's just starting to come around," said Hargreaves. "He's got the body, and all of that. "He's just got to put it all together."
Hill has drawn some interest this spring, but still appears to be flying under the radar a bit.
"Some Atlantic 10's are interested -- Richmond, Dayton," said Hargreaves. "Stanford's been sending him stuff. Manhattan and Fairfield (are interested). He hasn't been offered by anybody yet."
Hill had made a positive impression at the Bob Gibbons' Tournament of Champions in North Carolina during Memorial Day weekend. Slippery St. John's-bound guard Doug Wiggins is the engine that makes his team go, but Hill and 6-foot-2 shooting guard Chauncey Hardy from Xavier High School in Middletown, Connecticut, are two other vital parts to the equation.
According to Hargreaves, Hill is also a solid student- in the "B" range.
