Lacrosse Star Prepping For Basketball Career

Senior Reporter

It'd been a while since we last saw Brendan Sullivan, and according to the native of Darien, Connecticut, his past couple of months had been dominated more by lacrosse than hoops.

"Actually, I've been playing a lot of lacrosse lately," said Brendan Sullivan. "I was an All-American defenseman. But I'm probably not going to play it in college."

Don't let Sullivan fool you. He's also been putting plenty of work into his game on the hoops end. The 6-foot-8, 210 pound power forward continues to make strides, and is doing a post-graduate year at Northfield Mount Hermon in Massachusetts this fall, a move that should help him to further refine his skills.

Sullivan is a face-up four-man with range to the arc. He's always been a shooting threat, but more recently he's made strides with his ballhandling, and he's an alert passer as well. We are impressed with Brendan's intelligence and basketball IQ. He's a mobile big man who runs the floor well, and he gives you an honest effort every time out. We expect his ball skills to continue to improve and like his upside. Brendan will have to continue to get stronger to prepare physically for the next level.

A couple of programs in the Northeast are monitoring Sullivan's progress.

"Delaware offered me," said Sullivan. "I'm talking with Providence. Loyola (MD), Hartford, and Fairfield (are interested)."

Delaware is interested in bringing Sullivan in for this fall, but he is almost certainly headed to Northfield once school time rolls around. Brendan is a graduate of Darien High School.

Sullivan gave us some thoughts on what appeals to him in a basketball program and a University.

"I'm looking for a good school where I can go and get to play, be a role player (early)," said Sullivan. "I'd like to stay on the East Coast."

Brendan is running with the New York Ravens / New Heights team this summer, coached by Artie Cox and Chris Matesic. He competed at the Summer Classic East at Fairleigh Dickinson University as well as the Playaz Ball at Seton Hall with that team this week. Next up on the itinerary is the Adidas Super 64 Tournament in Las Vegas next week, followed by the Best of Summer Tournament at Loyola Marymount University in California.

Brendan made the 46-60 all-star game at the first session of the Eastern Invitational Camp recently.

Sullivan told us that he has scored 1080 on the SAT.
