NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. -- In a battle of offensive minded lead guards, Arizona bound Nic Wise popped off for 31 points to lead the Houston Hoops to an 83-75 victory over Louisiana Select on Thursday night at the Nike Peach Jam quarters.

His Louisiana counterpart, Baylor bound DeMond "Tweety" Carter, tallied 20 points.

After a tight first half of action, the Hoops built a 60-50 lead with 8:58 remaining in the game. While there were a few anxious moments, the Hoops were able to keep Louisiana at bay and emerge victorious.

Nic Wise had ample help in the form of rising junior power forward Gary Johnson (14 points) and sharp-shooting guard Brandon Brown (11 points).

Leonard Washington, the rugged 6-6 rising junior power forward for Louisiana Select, registered 22 points and 13 rebounds in the loss. He has been a model of consistency all spring and summer long for Mike Theus' program.
