One of the handful of New York area prospects out of the class of 2005 still lingering firmed up his college plans recently. Benoit Bekono, the 6-foot-6, 190-pound power forward from Our Savior New American in Centereach, New York, signed an institutional letter of intent with Cal-Riverside, according to Eric Jaklitsch, one of Bekono's coaches with the New York Elite AAU team. A live-bodied forward who goes to the glass, Bekono had drawn interest from Hartford, Louisiana-Lafayette, and Louisiana-Monroe this spring. Benoit missed last summer's AAU run and a good portion of his high school season recovering from a torn ACL suffered last spring at the Tournament of Champions. He returned for Coach Ron Stelzer's team at OSNA in January and competed with the New York Elite this spring. The native of Cameroon has been working on expanding his ball skills. He can put it on the floor some and has been putting work into his offensive repertoire with the hopes of playing on the wing at the next level. Bekono isn't the only Our Savior New American player headed West this fall. James Tchana, the rugged 6-foot-7 power forward/center, signed with Fresno State this spring. |
