St. Thomas More 74, Blair Academy 60
The Chancellors staked an early lead on the strength of their outside shooting. A 16-footer by Terrance Grier and 13-foot baseline jumper by Edwin Ubiles pushed the St. Thomas More lead to 41-30 right before the half. Blair grabbed some momentum heading into the intermission, as Shamari Spears tossed in a three-pointer from well-beyond NBA range at the buzzer to pull to within 41-33.
Jere Quinn's team was able to create some separation in the third quarter. An alley-oop from Mike Quinn to Antonio Pena pushed their lead to 51-37 with 4:56 to play in the third quarter, while another lob, this one to Edwin Ubiles with 2:18 to play in the third, roused the crowd and extended their cushion to 56-39.
St. Thomas More was never seriously threatened in the fourth quarter.
The Chancellors were led by 6-foot-1 point guard Mike Quinn with 21 points (five three-pointers). Quinn buoyed the winners with his stroke, intellegence, and leadership.
Grier added 14 points, while Villanova commit Antonio Pena contributed 10. Edwin Ubiles and Callum Jones pitched in with eight points apiece.
Blair received 16 points from Boston College signee Shamari Spears. The 6-foot-6 power forward showed off a polished mid-range game, but for the most part was kept in check. Kenny Page added 10 points.
