Drew Quarlers scored 22 points and grabbed six rebounds to help Amityville High School knock off Floral Park High School in a Rim Rocker consolation game held on the campus of Longwood High School in Middle Island, New York.
Quarlers, a versatile 6-foot-4 senior swingman, was very active on both ends of the court in helping Jack Agostino's Warriors win the first game of a a four-game set played yesterday in Suffolk County.
Floral Park did jump out to a 19-16 advantage in the first quarter on the strenght of Eric Andreuzzi's seven points. However, defensive pressure by Amityville and careless ballhandling by Floral Park enabled the Warriors to lead at the half, 35-26.
Amityville pushed the advantage to 56-42 heading into the fourth quarter. However, Floral Park guard Joseph Garcia got red hot from the three-point line and helped his team make it a game in the fourth quarter. Garcia unloaded five three-pointers in the second half to help keep the game close. Garcia finished the game with 23 points.
For Amityville, Andrew Ayodeji was again impressive. He scored 18 points, including four of nine from beyond the three-point line. Teammate Antoinne Brown was very effective inside, scoring 10 points and grabbing a team-high eight points.
For Floral Park, besides Garcia's great offensive game, Andreuzzi finished with 12 points while teammate Brandin Butler added 11 points. Point guard Billy Butler had a rough shooting day for Floral Park but did have 10 assists.
