PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. -- David Boykin scored 12 of his game high 20 points in the second half, directing White Plains H.S. to a 63-43 victory over Don Bosco Prep on Sunday afternoon at the 2006 Westchester Elite Winter Hardwood Classic.
Boykin, a 6-2 senior combo guard, stepped his game up in the third quarter, leading the Tigers on a 25-12 surge that spun the outcome in their favor. White Plains assumed an insurmountable 47-29 advantage after three quarters of play.
Tigers Head Coach Spencer Mayfield wasn't surprised that Boykin emerged to propel his squad to victory.
"He played a great game both defensively and offensively," Mayfield said. "He put the ball in the right places and got it to the right people at the right time."
Army and Navy are among the colleges showing interest this winter in Boykin, who missed the summer hoop circuit in order to have corrective surgery (scoliosis).
"Last year he was on pace to be a Division I player," Mayfield said. "People didn't have a chance to see him in the summer, so now we're trying to play catch up."
Both Army and Navy had assistant coaches in attendance at Sunday's game, which was played on the campus of Pace University.
White Plains also placed quick penetrating 6-0 junior guard Jamell Cromartie (15 points) and husky 6-6 junior post Rishawn Johnson (10 points) in double figures.
Don Bosco, which lost all-state forward Tyrell Biggs (Pittsburgh) to graduation, struggled to score for long stretches of the contest. The Ironmen were led by 6-6 senior forward Connor Cornine's 10 points.
