NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. --Kevin Love helped Lake Oswego open up a 10-point first half lead, but Lakers Head Coach Mark Shoff thought his 6-9 power forward/center needed to ratchet things up in the second half.
"I called him aside and told him that he had a C game and needed to show everyone his A game," Shoff said. "He took over in the second half, and that's when we separated from them."
Love scored 10 of Lake Oswego's first 13 points in the second half, and the Lakers never looked back, coasting to a 72-49 victory over Our Savior Lutheran at the 2006 Basketball City Shootout.
Love collected 29 points, 20 rebounds and five assists as the lead ballooned beyond 20 points in the second half.
During the second half assault, Love displayed what sets him apart from most post players in the Class of 2007. He connected on two of three attempts beyond the arc and set up his teammates for easy baskets via his deft outlet passing.
The Lakers connected on nine of 18 three point attempts, with guard Ernie Spada (11 points) and Taylor Marr (nine points) each hitting a trio of shots beyond the arc. Point guard Vincent Thomas (eight assists) helped control the tempo for Lake Oswego, which shot 52 percent from the field and outrebounded the Falcons, 40-28.
Our Savior's Justin Burrell, a bouncy 6-7 senior power forward, paced the Falcons with 16 points and 13 rebounds in defeat. Swingman Nick Murphy chipped in 14 points for Our Savior, which shot just 23 percent in the second half and 29 percent for the game.
