TRENTON, N.J. -- A number of rising fifth-year players were selected to the Top 20 All-Star game on Saturday at the Eastern Invitational. In fact, 12 of the 20 players will be either postgraduates or fifth-year seniors at the prep school level. Camp MVP Mike Scott of Chesapeake, Va., signed with Temple this spring. But after the Owls changed coaches and Scott failed to qualify on his test score, the active 6-7 power forward opted to attend Hargrave Military Academy in 2006-2007. As a result, his recruitment is now open again. Terrence Roderick, who enjoyed a scintillating senior campaign at William Allen H.S. in Allentown, Penn., is also looking to attend prep school. Unlike Scott, he's undecided just where, but the Winchendon School and the Patterson School have already expressed interest in the versatile 6-5 wing. Rim attacker Nick Murphy, who spent the past several years at Our Savior Lutheran in the Bronx, N.Y., is headed out to Harmony Christian in Cincinnati. Tyrone Nash is slated to attend Northfield Mount Hermon in Massachusetts this Fall, unless he listens to some last minute overtures from major Division I programs this summer. Nash will join fellow Eastern Invitational all-star Jerrell Williams at NMH. After a successful career at St. John Neumann Goretti, 6-4 wing Earl Pettis is ticketed for the Patterson School in North Carolina. His future head coach at Patterson, Chris Chaney, watched Pettis this week at Eastern. Villanova signee Kraidon Woods, an active 6-9 run/jump athlete, will hone his craft at the Hill School in Pottstown, Penn., in 2006-2007. He scored eight points for the victorious White squad, finishing the fast break with a few dunks. Rutgers bound spot up shooter Justin Sofman tallied nine points in the all-star game. He reportedly will attend St. Thomas More in Connecticut this Fall. Trigger happy forward Ameer Ali, who led the White squad with 19 points in the Top 20 game, will return to Lutheran Christian Academy in Philadelphia. Long Island native Rashad Green, who scored eight points for the Blue squad in the Top 20 game, will attend Bridgton Academy in Maine. Green will be joined at Bridgton by fellow Blue squad teammate Paris Horne, an athletic 6-2 shooting guard from Middletown, Del. Green and Horne will likely match up against All-Star game MVP Malcolm Grant (26 points) next winter. Grant will enroll at the Winchendon School in Massachusetts. This past March, Bridgton topped Winchendon for the NEPSAC Class A crown. |
