It wasn't hard to spot the best player on the court this afternoon at the IS8 gym in South Jamaica, New York.
Without a doubt, Michael Beasley of Notre Dame Prep in Fitchburg, Massachusetts put on a show many in the stands won't forget. Beasley's 50 points gave the Juice All Stars a 120-80 victory over the Connecticut Basketball Club in a pool game in the Fall IS8 League.
But there was more to the Juice's win than Beasley scorching the Connecticut team with jumpers and drives to the basket. The hard work and driving baskets of Kevin Menner help set the tone. In fact, it was a game for the first eight minutes. The Juice held a 22-14 lead after the first quarter.
But the impressive strength of Menner helped the Juice forge a 57-39 lead after two quarters of play. Eventually, the game was blown out by the Juice. The score was an eye-opening 93-55 heading into the fourth quarter.
Menner's hard play at both ends of the court helped him finish the game with 17 points. Teammate Erving Walker had nine points while Malcolm Grant added 11 points.
Darius Gabriel also contributed for the Juice with 11 points and Brandan Walters scored nine.
