LAKE BUENA VISTA, FLORIDA -- Size is very important when it comes to winning big events on the AAU circuit. Xavier Gibson and the schools that are recruiting him know this.

Gibson, 6-foot-10 and from Northview High School in Georgia, competed this week at the 17 and under Super Showcase for the Georgia Blazers AAU team. While Gibson sometimes isn't the first look in an offensive possession, Xavier doesn't complain and just tries to do his job.

"I'm trying to get stronger and work on my moves around the basket," he said after he scored eight points to help eliminate the Westchester Hawks in the semifinals of the Super Showcase for 17 and under inside the Milk House.

"I try to do that every chance I get," he said. "I feel I will be able to score more consistently as I get stronger."

Gibson also added 10 points against the New Jersey All Stars in a first round game also held inside the Milk House at the Wide World of Sports complex.

And Xavier is certainly highly regarded by several programs and many of these schools watched him play here this week. "North Carolina, Florida, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Alabama are some of the schools I like," Gibson said. "But I am open."

Xavier, a 2008 prospect with long arms and a nice upside to his game, said he was unsure of when he would make a decision.

For two area teams, they got a good taste of a player that could be a very good college basketball player down the road.
