Naclerio Hoping Southerland Comes Back

Reporter Mike Sullivan has story on swingman James Southerland ...

Cardozo head coach Ron Naclerio said he will be certain of James Southerland's status once school starts. School in the New York City area begins after Labor Day weekend, around September 5th.

"James is a quality player," Naclerio said. "But he has to attend to some things in the classroom too. So it's uncertain what class status he is or will be."

Southerland, 6-foot-6, has a smooth jumper and is efficient around the basket. He has given a verbal commitment to Jim Boeheim's Syracuse University basketball program.

Naclerio is hoping that Southerland joins his basketball program this season. "He's a key player for us," he said. "He has the ability to score from anywhere on the court. He can put up a lot of points for us."

So, right now, it's a waiting game to see what Southerland will decide and how he wants to proceed in getting himself eligible to play for Syracuse in the Big East Conference.
