Reporter Mike Sullivan has story on hiring at St. John The Baptist ...

Jim Plate, a well experience coach in the New York area, was recently named the new head boy's basketball coach at St. John The Baptist High School in West Islip, New York (Long Island).

Plate has an impressive resume of experience in the area of basketball too. He played at Seton Hall High School in Patchogue, New York before competing for Lou Carnesecca's Redmen during the 1965-68 seasons.

He was successful on Wall Street before finishing up his business career. He returned to St. John The Baptist High School to help the JV team win a league championship for the first time (2006).

Plate was elected into the Suffolk County Sports Hall of Fame in 2007. He has been an assistant coach for the varsity too.

The team should be very competitive again this season. Among the players to watch this season is 6-foot-4, 185-pound backcourt player Josh Elbaum.

Elbaum has some division one interest from schools like Davidson and Boston University. Plate will be relying upon Elbaum to have a solid season.

We wish Plate much success at St. John The Baptist. Plate has always been kind and respectful to us in what we have to do here to provide information.
