For James Padgett, it was a difficult decision to leave Xaverian High School in Brooklyn, New York. Padgett, as reported previously by reporter Brian Towey on this website, left Jack Alesi's highly regarded program to compete at another top basketball powerhouse in Lincoln High School in Brooklyn, New York.
Padgett, 6-foot-8, 218-pounds, can play either the center position or the power forward slot. He gives Tiny Morton some strength along the front line and once again the Rail Splitters are a threat to win it all again this season.
Padgett has competed with Starrett City in the IS8 Fall League and has looked solid throughout the event. He showed us this past summer that his improvement in his low post game was terrific, making him a very highly touted junior.
It's early in the recruiting process for Padgett but he recently mentioned interest in Seton Hall, Clemson, St. John's, Providence, St. Francis, and Manhattan. If Padgett, as expected, has a solid junior year, it's likely this list will expand.
James is a player that has great upside to his game. As he matures and adds strength to the top of his frame, he should be more consistent in scoring around the basket.
