Pearson, Martin Spark CTK Victory

Reporter Frank Mantesta has free game story on Ryan Pearson's big game ...

Despite a terrific individual performance by Sylven Landesberg, Christ The King's more balanced attack enabled the Royals to win an important CHSAA battle, 85-75.

With five minutes left in the second quarter Christ The King star and George Mason recruit Ryan Pearson, picked up his third foul sending him to the bench with CTK leading, 29-25.

While Royals fans moaned and the Cross fans cheered, both were short lived.

Landesberg {Virginia} tried to keep them in the game. He finished with 37 points. But Christ The King had more then one option.

Sean Johnson, the 6-foot-2 junior guard for Christ The King, scored the next five points and the Royals held a comfortable advantage at 34-25.

Sean finished the game with 17 points.

But tonight Bob Oliva's highly regarded program received help from little known Anthony Martin.

"Anthony was the key tonight he has been playing very well lately but tonight he was the difference," Oliva said.

Martin, a lefty 6-foot-2 senior, had 17 points in a variety of ways.. He hit threes and dropped in lobs, showing explosiveness above the rim. He had a nice night for the unknown quality player.

Christ The King held their lead at the end of the third quarter with a 61-49 advantage -- thanks to the return of Pearson. He showed off his amazing talent with smooth drives to the basket. He features a long reach and can finish with both hands.

Ryan had a team high 24 points and 13 rebounds.
