Erving Walker has heard it all his life -- "he's too small..."
But each year Walker has improved his individual game and he's not too small for the coaching confidence of Florida leader Billy Donovan.
Reporter Frank Mantesta watched Erving Walker perform live last night in Christ The King's big CHSAA victory over Sylven Landesberg and Holy Cross.
According to Mantesta, Walker, the Florida recruit, had his typical quality game. Royals head coach Bob Oliva stated: "That’s Erving if you need 40 (points), he'll get you that."
While Ryan Pearson scored a game high 24 points for the winners and Anthony Martin added 17 points, Walker directed the Royals offense in efficient fashion.
According to Mantesta, Walker needed to run the team with full court on the dime passes. He led his team finishing up with 15 points and 13 assists.
"Erving showed he can defend, score or do whatever it takes to win the game," Oliva added.
*Walker has made vast improvements in his job as a floor general. He motors to the rim much more and doesn't rely completely on his outstanding perimeter game. He is among the best point guards now in the country. Not bad for a guy who is picked on only for his size at 5-foot-7.
