Reporter Brian Towey has the story on a former St. John's player ...

Qa'rraan Calhoun, a 6-foot-8, 215-pound sophomore forward from Barton County Community College in Great Bend, Kan., will continue his playing career at Houston.

The New Jersey native and St. John's transfer was named first team all-Jayhawk Conference for the West Division after averaging 16.8 points and 7.3 rebounds for 23-8 Barton. He shot 47.8 percent from the field and 31.7 percent from the 3-point line.

"He committed to Houston around Christmas time," said Barton head coach Craig Fletchall. "He played the "3" for us, kind of a 4/3. He can score from the perimeter. I think they want him to play the "3". I'm not really sure how they're going to use him. Houston gets up and down and shoots a lot of threes.

"(College play) will be an adjustment for him, just like it is for any kid. He's going to have to guard better and be a little bit tougher."

Calhoun averaged 5.9 points and 4.0 rebounds in 22.5 minutes as a freshman at St. John's in 2006-2007.
