New York Elite head coach Eric Jaklitsch had a decision to make -- go big against a smaller team or match up with some of his quickness. He chose the latter and it led to the Elite defeating the Queens Blackhawks in a weekend game played at IS8 in South Jamaica, New York.
"I had to use my best players and it worked out," said Jaklitsch, who utilized four guards and one very good big man to land the 77-71 victory.
Senior guard Gerardo Suero led all scorers with 28 points while Tristan Thompson dropped in 21 points with several smooth moves around the rim.
Scott Machado scored 16 points to help with the backcourt scoring while Rayner Moquete scored nine for the winners.
Isiah Stokely hit several off balance and in the lane bankers to lead the Blackhawks with 26 points.
The Elite led 18-17 after the first quarter of play and 34-30 at the half. The Blackhawks made several runs at the Elite in the final two quarters of play due to the terrific offensive play of Stokely.
However, the Elite balance of their guards and the play inside by Thompson, a terrific talent, shut down any chance for the Blackhawks to claim this victory.
