Earlier this week, Mike Cavataio announced his intentions to transfer from St. John's University. It did not take long for the 6-foot-4 swingman and Forest Hills native to find a new home.
"I'm on my official visit to Holy Cross right now," Cavataio said by phone on Friday night. "I made up my mind: I'm going to Holy Cross."
Cavataio appeared in 17 games as a freshman at St. John's this season, averaging 1.4 points and 1.2 rebounds in 5.9 minutes of play.
The reputation of coach Ralph Willard was one of the things that drew Cavataio to the Patriot League program.
"(The program has) a good coach," said Cavataio. "Just the whole program (was appealing)."
Cavataio will have three years of eligibility at Holy Cross. He joins former AAU teammate Andrew Beinert on the Crusaders' roster.
Cavataio was a former standout at St. Francis Prep High School in Queens and one of the CHSAA's top scorers as a senior.
