Former Johnnie Discusses His Decision

Senior Reporter
Posted Apr 28, 2008

Reporter Brian Towey has a free story and interview with Mike Cavataio ...

Mike Cavataio recently decided to transfer from St. John's to Holy Cross. The 6-foot-4 swingman, who will have three years of eligibility with the Patriot League program, gave his thoughts on the transfer and what attracted him to Holy Cross.

"They've been a winning program in the Patriot League," said Cavataio. "Andrew (Beinert) plays there, and that was a big draw. It's a program with a good coach in Coach Willard, and that helps a lot. And besides the basketball, the education that I'll be getting there."

The roster situation at Holy Cross dovetailed with Cavataio's desire for more playing time.

"They'll have five seniors graduating by the time I'm eligible," said Cavataio. "That will open up a lot of minutes."

Cavataio's decision to leave St. John's was mainly an issue of playing time. He said he was looking for "just a bigger role on a team. More minutes, more playing time. With the situation at St. John's, with eight freshmen, it wasn't your typical rotation."
