Boys and Girls big man Kyrie Sutton lodged a verbal commitment to St. Peter's College less than a month ago. After a strong showing at the second session of the Hoop Group Elite Camp last week and further consideration, the 6-foot-9, 240 pounder did an about-face and committed to Binghamton for this fall.
"I decided a few days after the end of camp," said Sutton. "They have a good situation for me there and I wanted to go away to school."
Sutton took an unofficial visit to Binghamton the weekend before the camp and was swayed by what he saw.
"(One of the reasons for the change was) Because St. Peter's doesn't have a campus," said Sutton. "I wanted to experience a campus."
Sutton's performance at the Hoop Group camp earned him a spot in the top 21-40 all-star game and inquiries from a slew of intrigued programs, among them Marist, South Florida, St. Bonaventure, Manhattan, and Fairfield.
At that point, Sutton considered opening up his recruitment altogether or pursuing a year of prep school. However, Sutton opted for Binghamton, who, along with St. Peter's, had been recruiting him since midway through his senior year.
"They've got some pretty good guards coming up," said Sutton. "They feel that I can play with them. ... (They like the fact that) I can run the floor, I rebound, and I can finish around the rim; I'm active."
