LAKE BUENA VISTA, FLORIDA -- The New York City Gauchos are familiar with the basketball courts inside the Milk House. This traditionally rich AAU program has featured some of the best players over the past few decades and claimed many titles while competing here at Disney World. So, when discussing favorites to advance far in such events as this -- the 17 and under Showcase -- the Gauchos have to be considered seriously. In their first round playoff game, the Gauchos manhandled the Carolina Ravens, 68-39. Dwayne Mitchell's team grabbed an 18-10 advantage after the first eight minutes of play and increased the lead to 33-20. On the strength of play from Sean Johnson, Durand Scott, Tevin Baskin, Russell Smith, Taaj Ridley, Tyreak Johnson, and James Stukes, the Gauchos completely blew the game wide open in the third quarter. The second half featured many fastbreak finishes for the running Gauchos while their impressive defense helped jumpstart the offense.
Mitchell's group is filled with many division one prospects too. As the game began, almost every seat was filled with a program watching the Gauchos compete. Look for coverage throughout the week regarding the Gauchos drive to win a title. |
