James Stukes, a 6-foot-5, 220-pound forward and senior at Rice (N.Y.) High School will take a postgraduate year in the fall.

"I'm going to go prep," said Stukes. "I'm going to South Kent with Russell Smith. ... I'm taking a prep year to boost (my grades) and to work on my guard skills."

Stukes and Smith, of Archbishop Molloy High School, are AAU teammates with the New York Gauchos.

Stukes, a ruggedly built and versatile forward, had previously made a verbal commitment to Robert Morris.

"I actually de-committed from Robert Morris twice," said Stukes. "The first time was because of family reasons and the second because of prep (school). I still may go there for 2010, but it's not a (final) decision; I'm working on it. I'm open right now."

Stukes said that along with Robert Morris, Marist, Iona, and Manhattan had expressed interest.
