Derek Johnson, a 6-foot-5 power forward from BCIT (Burlington County Institute of Technology) in Westampton, New Jersey, is a 2011 prospect who will play in spring and summer events for Team NJABC (16 and under team) over the next few months.
Johnson has two more full seasons on the high school level to attract some division one interest in his skill level.

Johnson had some decent range out to 17 feet. He makes his living close to the basket though. He scoops up loose balls off the glass, utilizes his frame to shield his defenders to also make an impact on the offensive glass.
Built like a tight end, the areas Derek is currently working on are his ballhandling and being more consistent from the perimeter.
"He has huge upside and works very hard," said Team NJABC head coach Matt Pauls. "Most importantly, he is a great young man and teammate. He is new to the grassroots scene, but is on track to having many college options."
It's likely that he'll have some schools watch him over the next couple of months. Schools like Stony Brook, St. Francis, Fordham, Fairfield, etc. have been very good at scouting these types of players.
