Reporter Mike Sullivan discusses the individual game of Pat Moore, a solid division one prospect who is a very good basketball player, able to help a program in many ways ...

Colgate's academic reputation is among the best in the United States. So it wasn't a surprise when highly skilled academically gifted Pat Moore chose a challenge for the next four years of his life.

Moore, a 6-foot-6 combo forward from Notre Dame High School in Utica, N.Y., recently gave a verbal commitment to Colgate, according to his AAU coach, Jim Hart of the Albany City Rocks.

Moore had some earlier interest from Providence, Ivy League, Patriot League, MAAC, and Atlantic Ten schools. He's good enough to play on a higher level but has chosen a school that will guide him to a high level outside the game of basketball.

"It's close enough so his family can go see him play a lot," Hart stated previously. "And the reputation of Colgate as a great academic school was important to him in making the decision."

Moore competed for Hart's 17 and under Albany City Rocks AAU team during the July evaluation period. He also had a terrific Eastern Invitational camp. Moore is a solid player, possessing good enough skills in several aspects of the game.

We've had a chance to watch Moore play many times over the past couple of seasons. He has shown us the ability to help his team win games in many different ways -- rebounding in traffic, making a nifty pass, hitting a corner jumper, and knocking down clutch free throws. He'll be a terrific player for Colgate.

A gifted athlete who seems to succeed in the most stressful sport challenges, Moore will have many options as he moves towards a decision regarding his college career.

Moore has the basketball smarts and skill level to help his teams win close contests. Pat has down it a number of ways too from our personal experience of watching him compete mainly on the AAU level.
