Russell Smith, a wonderfully offensively gifted backcourt player from South Kent in Connecticut, continues to focus on two important aspects of his game -- polishing his lead guard skills and making improvements in the physical side.

"Everything is going great!" said an excited, energetic Smith. "I'm feeling bigger now (with the added weight).

Smith now weighs above 155 pounds. Smith started the year at South Kent around 145 pounds. He's been focusing on strengthening his frame over the past year. The former Archbishop Molloy High School star is a speedy, quick, decisive combo guard who loves to challenge the big bodies near the rim.

Russ, a shade below 5-foot-11, is averaging around 20 points a game for South Kent and about seven assists per contest.

Smith said he is looking forward to playing for head coach Rick Pitino and the Louisville basketball program.

A superlative scorer around the rim, Smith has a knack for finishing tough drives. He is capable of taking over games with his scoring, and does the majority of his damage within 12 feet of the hoop. He is able to break down defenders with his dribble and get into the lane for floaters or runners. Recommended Stories
