Shane Southwell, a 6-foot-6, 200-pound small forward out of Rice High School in New York, N.Y., was recently honored with an invitation to play in the New York regional game of the Jordan Brand event. Its a trio of all star games, including an event held primarily for the area players.

The game will be the second of three, slated to be played on April 17th at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Shane is an intriguing prospect. He is already committed to Big 12 program Kansas State.

He's also been honored as one of 30 plus seniors in the Empire State to land a McDonald's All American nomnination. Shane will also compete in the talent rich IS8 Spring League.

Southwell, one of the better players in the tri-state area who can impact in the scoring and rebounding departments, played for one of the top basketball programs in the country, Rice, a team that always challenges in the traditionally tough New York City Catholic League.

"I'm going to work on my strength and conditioning," said Southwell, referring to what he would like to use his time before he plays division one college basketball.

"I plan on getting to Kansas State in mid June," said Southwell.

BRIAN TOWEY'S PREVIOUS EVALUATION:

A long, slender wing, the ambidextrous Southwell has point forward-type skills, with excellent vision and playmaking ability. Southwell is able to survey the floor and find open mates or slash to the basket.

COLLEGES/UNIVERSITIES OF INTEREST:

Southwell has committed to Kansas State, a program that has done an impressive job of recruiting lately in the New York City area.

WHAT SOUTHWELL SAID PREVIOUSLY ABOUT KANSAS STATE: "What I liked best was the fact they want me two come in and play a combo guard role. I was comfortable with the coaching staff and players too."

He previously had serious and strong recruiting interest from St. John's, Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Marquette, West Virginia, South Florida, Providence, South Carolina, Seton Hall, and Miami of Florida.

SOUTHWELL ON HIS INDIVIDUAL GAME:

My game has changed. I put on a couple of pounds. I think I gained some strength. My jump shot has gotten better. My defense has gotten way better. My whole game has gotten better."
