In a highly competitive AAU regional final, the New York City Gauchos outlasted the Westchester Hawks

The backcourt duo of Jessie Sapp and Saiquon Stone racked up 43 points combined to lead the New York City Gauchos to a 79-74 victory over the highly competitive Westchester Hawks AAU team. The Gauchos win helped the traditionally rich guard oriented to an AAU regional title victory at the Island Garden in West Hempstead, New York.

"The kids did a nice job," said one of the Gauchos' coaches, Keith Smith. "All the kids stepped up and played well."

While the backcourt of Sapp and Stone were very effective, Westchester guard Randy Wilson was also productive in playing against these guards. Wilson finished with 16 points. Sapp led all scorers with 26 points while Stone added 17 points.

The Gauchos led 41-38 at the half. There were a few lead changes and ties in the first 16 minutes of play. When the Gauchos would extend the lead to double digits, the Hawks, led by Wilson and Quentin Martin carved the disadvantage to single numbers.

The Gauchos will head to Orlando, Florida to play in the National AAU tournament as will the Westchester Hawks. The Gauchos will also compete at the Showcase in Orlando, Florida too.
