LAKE BUENA VISTA, FLORIDA -- The New York City Gauchos are an AAU program that has always done a terrific job in featuring terrific play from the backcourt positions. So, it's no surprise and Keith and Kevin Smith's 16 and under team has some solid talent again for the Showcase here at Disney World.

Doron Lamb is the obvious name and player to keep an eye on while down here. But a prospect by the name of Sandro Carrissimo is a pretty good player too.

Carrissimo scored 16 points, including two three-pointers, to lead a balanced Gauchos attack yesterday at the Milk House. The Gauchos rolled to a 79-54 victory over Hunting Park.

The Gauchos led 20-7 after the first eight minutes of play and 48-16 at the half. It was a stroll in the park for the Smiths' team in the final two quarters as the coaching staff took full advantage and gave one a chance to sweat.

Lamb had only 10 points in limited time. But Doron showed his skill level is progressing by displaying several pretty passes to his teammates.

Forward Melsahn Basabe was terrific for the Gauchos on the front line, scoring around the basket for 17 points while recording several sky-reaching blocks.

Derrick Wilson added eight points for the winners while Tauron Bailey had nine.

But the encouraging part of the day for the Gauchos was the play of Carrissimo, the 6-foot-2 guard from Iona Prep in New Rochelle, N.Y. If he is able to maintain a consistent perimeter result the rest of this event, it should allow players like Lamb to be even more effective.
